Apethorpe Hall is in the neighbouring village to Kings Cliffe and is only about a mile from Hall Farm. It contains one of the most important Jacobean interiors to remain in the country.  The house was begun in the late 15th century and in the mid-16th century a state suite was created in preparation for a visit from Queen Elizabeth I.  She was only entertained here once, in 1566, but her successors James I and Charles I  stayed many times.  They enjoyed the hunting in Rockingham Forest within which both Apethorpe and Kings Cliffe are situated.  In total 13 royal visits were recorded between 1566 and 1636.

Apethorpe Hall will again be open this summer for tours.  This grand stately home is run by English Heritage.  Tours run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from June to the end of September.  There are three tours per day, depending on demand, starting at 10.30am, 1pm and 3.30pm.  Prior booking with English Heritage is required and this can be done by phoning 0870 333 1183.
